Our table lamp is made from an unretouched traditional green glazed antique Chinese house air vent grill from an old-fashioned Chinese house 

Chinese homes of the British colonial error were an interesting mix of European and Chinese features, from the Tuscan or Doric (and sometimes both) columns which adorn their facades, to the intricately carved (as seen in the picture) on the right or moulded vents that sit above doors and windows. 

Green ceramic vents are most often associated with the Early Transitional Style of Nyonya home architecture, and nowadays most commonly found in the Chinese shophouses of Penang, Phuket and Singapore. These were usually made of white clay though porcelain ones are not unknown. They are usually square or oblong in shape, with rounded corners and feature a lucky symbolic pattern.
