Gooseneck Bucket (Small)
Gooseneck Bucket (Small)
22cm x 31cm
These quaint wooden Chinese buckets are lacquered and painted in rustic Chinese style. Their almost toy-like appearance hides an ergonomic secret that is directly related to its actual use.
The odd-looking goose neck handle is derived from the fact that such buckets were often used to collect water from pumps or taps, with the user holding the handle in one hand and supporting the base of the bucket with the other. But the beauty of its design is the fact that all properly made goose necked buckets balance on the tip of the beak. In a perfect synthesis of aesthetic form and ergonomic design, the tip of the goose's beak always aligns with the centre of the bucket below.
If you put your finger tip under the tip of the goose's neck, you can lift the entire bucket without tipping the basket over and spilling a single drop of water from the belly which is formed by the bucket.
