Lady Console
Lady Console
L:96cm x W:26.5cm x H:86cm
These distinctive lacquered Chinese elm wood side table with drawers and centre storage section, are called lady consoles because they were often part of a bride's trousseau, together with the wedding cabinets and jewellery boxes which country brides took to their husbands' homes.
Although not an essential part of the bridal set, it was only the better off ladies who could afford to have these dainty side display tables, hence the name. They were used for storing the young ladies' embroidery materials or perhaps the beloved knickknacks from her old home.
As modern furniture, their eye-catching colours and uncompromisingly non-western proportions make them lovely additions as side display stands for a lady's most beloved vase or bow or lamp.
