Deep red was the favoured colour for happy occasions in China and these consoles were originally called wine table. They were meant to serve a single person only, hence the narrow width. Contrary to popular local belief, black did not signify sombre or unhappy occasions, but age and antiquity in Chinese symbology though red was prefered in most homes.

Fashioned in the spare Ming-style with minimal ornamentation in elm wood with carved cloud support supports, our distinctive consoles make welcome highlight or show stand for small to medium-sized items.
