These spectacular reproduction chair sets are used mainly during weddings, special occasions and the Chinese New Year celebrations. Traditionally,, only the eldest members of a family, very close friends or guests of honour are seated in them, and that, only for brief periods to receive the homage and respects of junior family members.

At weddings and during the Chinese new Year, the oldest members of a family are seated in them to receive the respects of the children and youngest family members. Of course, that also means the elders have to dispense suitably stuffed red packets, too!

At weddings, family members older than the bride and groom are seated here first, to receive the couple's respects, and then after that, the bride and groom take their places to receive the respects of all those younger than themselves in the tea ceremony.
